DS: Thundershirts / TTouch Techniques?
The pressure created by the Thundershirt garment is supposed to help calm some dogs in situations that would otherwise make them anxious. It’s supposed to work in similar ways to the Tellington T-Touch methods (which I am not super familiar with, and think sound rather hokey, but anyway…).
Has anyone ever tried one of these? How did it work for you? Would you consider trying one of these?
I ask, as one of my bitches has travel anxiety… she is always excited to get into the car, but once we get going she pants and circles and claws and won’t relax unless she is exhausted from the day’s activities. She’s very stressed out, and it would be nice to find a way to help calm her. We tried Rescue Remedy… didn’t do much.
I was thinking (instead of paying at the local pet store for a thundershirt) that I would try wrapping an ACE bandage around her body and chest and seeing if this helps her? (she’s about 8lbs, so a bandage should work).
Thoughts? Ideas? Experiences?
Legit if needed: Is your dog/are any of your dogs anxious in the car?
@Robin Loob — no need to be rude. I was just curious if anyone had tried them. It’s not supposed to restrict their breathing.
I DO crate her, but she still freaks out, and then she pukes all over herself, and if we’re going to a show, that’s not much help, now is it?
I was simply looking for a way to help reduce her anxiety. Sheesh.
I’m not 100% sure weather she is carsick or anxious– but her stressing starts as soon as we turn the car on (and it always has, since she was 8wks old). With any of my dogs, they tend to get sick if put in the kennel in the back and they can’t see outside… If we have her in our laps, she will stress, but not get sick. She will stay in my lap if I firmly command her to down stay, but she sits there heavily panting, all bug-eyed.
